Ever wanted to jet off to the Spanish capital of Madrid? In a massive shake-up for its European network, Singapore Airlines (SIA) just announced it is bringing back flights to Madrid starting October 26, 2026. This new route marks the carrier’s highly-anticipated return to Madrid after a 22-year absence since October 2004. Although, before you start planning your Spanish adventure, travellers must be aware that the new five-times-weekly service is not a direct flight because it includes a one-hour layover in Barcelona. Here’s everything you should know.
How will the new Singapore to Madrid flights work?
While SIA is marketing the return to Madrid as a major win, the new route (SQ388 & SQ378) will operate as a tag-on service through Barcelona. The flight departs Singapore at 11.30pm, touches down in Barcelona at 6.40am local time for one hour, before making the short domestic hop to Madrid Barajas Airport arriving at 8.50am local time. Meanwhile, the return flight from Madrid to Singapore leaves at 10am local time and arrives at 8.25am SGT the following day.
Here’s the details on the new Singapore-Barcelona-Madrid itinerary:
- Launch Date: October 26, 2026
- Frequency: 5 days a week
- Aircraft: Airbus A350-900 in a long-haul configuration
- Tickets: Selling from June 2026
Interestingly, SIA is pulling the plug on other routes to make room for this new Spanish connection. For instance, the existing Singapore-Milan-Barcelona service will be officially cancelled in October 2026, while the currently Singapore-Barcelona flights are set to merge into this new Madrid itinerary. Wonderfully, Madrid will become SIA’s 15th European destination and its second in Spain. And if you’re heading to Madrid, discover all the best things to do via our sister website Madrid Secreto.
