“How sweet the sound” will be this April when Singapore’s Candlelight concerts go Gospel at the Chamber, The Arts House. Once the place where members of Parliament gathered to debate policies, the venue will soon be twinkling with the light of hundreds of candles and filled with the sounds of ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘Oh Happy Day’, and ‘This Little Light’ for a night worthy of ‘Heaven’.
Furnished with customised furniture brought in from London and retaining its original 1954 upholstery, The Arts Houses’ Chamber is one of Singapore’s most unique venues. The intimate space features a central aisle with seating on either side, allowing performers the freedom to move about easily and get up closer to the audience.
Characterised by dominant vocals, much of Gospel music features call-and-response where the multiple vocalists (soloist and backup singers) at this Candlelight Gospel concert will truly shine and deliver a resounding performance. Joined by a full band featuring drummer, bassist and keyboardist, the Chamber will be lifted up in song and light.
Other Gospel songs include ‘Going Up Yonder’, ‘Take Me To The King’ and ‘Awesome God’ as well as other classics that will lift the spirit and energy of the evening to the clouds.
The Candlelight Gospel tribute takes place on Thursday 14 April with two performances at 6:30pm and then 9pm. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the beginning of each concert so you’ll be able to soak up the dreamy and intimate atmosphere of the Chamber illuminated by candlelight.
