As we reported last week, the estimate number of covid cases in Singapore rose sharply to 14,200, up from 11,100 the previous week. According to reports, hospitalizations climbed by about 30% too. COVID cases in Asia
The 2025 COVID-19 situation in Singapore and other parts of Asia is attributed to the surge in waning immunity and increased social activity. The primary variants circulating are LF.7 and NB.1.8 – both descendants of the JN.1 lineage. Although, they are not more severe than previous strains.

- Singapore

Is it safe to travel?
The current wave has led to increased vigilance among health authorities in Asia. Although, most cases are mild, especially in countries with high vaccination rates, and previous widespread exposure. However, vulnerable groups are advised to be particularly cautious. This includes the elderly, immunocompromised, and those with underlying health conditions. Therefore, health agencies recommend basic precautions like mask-wearing in crowded places, good hand hygiene, and staying home if unwell. Additionally, booster vaccinations are also encouraged for high-risk groups.
Overall, there is no indication of imminent lockdowns or travel bans despite covid cases increasing in Asia.
