Following the massive success of an overnight cycling event at The Seletar Mall, the team is ripping up the traditional retail rule book to host the first-ever night Skatecross Downmall Challenge in Singapore. Running from May 7 to 10, this exciting 4-day skating extravaganza turns everyday floors into vibrant, moving playgrounds. And it’s the perfect way for families, night owls, and youths to connect and experience the city’s unique nightlife away from the usual scene. Here’s what to expect at the night skate race.
How exactly does the Overnight Downmall Challenge work?
Singapore’s first night skate race takes place from 10pm on May 8 until 6am on May 9. The mall shifts into race mode for a multi-level, time-trial obstacle course where skaters will battle the clock as they carve through steep ramps, tight technical sections, and a jaw-dropping descent down a custom-built giant escalator slide.
Interestingly, there are five race categories: Weekend Warrior, Open, Women’s Open, Novice for children, and Advanced routes for youths aged 12 to 17. Competitors will battle it out for cash prizes, medals, and the ultimate winner bragging rights.
Those who would rather cheer on the late night excitement from the sidelines can get exclusive deals and enjoy a strong line-up of late night dining and stores (e.g Pontian Wanton Noodle, Fun Claw, McDonald’s) who are supporting the event with extended hours.
Meanwhile, Level 1 Atrium will become an open roller sports playground during the day between May 7 and 10. This is the perfect time for those with absolutely no experience to practice and rent gear onsite. Plus, you can jump into Inline Skating Tryouts with guided small group sessions for beginners or else tackle more advanced obstacles.
