Life got you down? Gen Z’s who have had enough of adulthood can now retire to Malaysia’s first youth retirement home where twenty-somethings can touch grass, nap all day long, and do absolutely nothing for a month. Located in Gopeng, the venue called Namshan Wellness is complete with countryside views, relaxing accommodation, delicious meals, chickens and other animals roaming around, and slow-life activities for those who want to escape reality—and far away from any work stress or deadlines. We can already see Asian parents eyes twitching at the thoughts of youths retiring at 25 for self-care purposes. Read on to find out more about Namshan Wellness in Malaysia.
How does the Gen Z retirement stay actually work?
The retreat for Gen Z’s in Malaysia is built across eight acres of greenery in Perak and is specifically for burnt-out young adults. Guests pay around RM2,000 (S$640) for a month. The price covers accommodation as well as daily meals for the month. Meanwhile, residents can live life at their own pace and there are no forced workshops.
Here’s the best part for Singaporeans: one month of doing nothing in Malaysia is cheaper than one month’s rent in Tanjong Pagar. You just need to convince your boss to allow you an extended holiday or else…quit.
Interestingly, the retreat was created by a 26-year-old whose family runs a conventional nursing home in nearby Ipoh. He found traditional eldercare homes depressing and wanted a gentler space for his own overworked generation. And thanks to social media, the youth retirement home is causing a frenzy online and demand for a staycation there exploded.

Although, unique to the region, these youth retirement homes are not a first-of-its-kind. China already offers a number of youth nursing homes and youth retirement villages where many residents are freelancers or remote workers from 20s to 40s. Learn more via Instagram.
