Japanese sushi chain Itacho Sushi has quietly exited Singapore, with all its remaining outlets now listed as permanently closed on Google Maps as of March 16, 2026. The affected branches include Bugis Junction, Ion Orchard, The Star Vista, and more, following earlier closures at Tampines Mall and Bedok Mall over the past year. This shutdown marks the end of a brand that once drew large queues for its affordable handmade sushi after it first arrived in Singapore in July 2009. Here’s what we know about the Itacho Sushi Singapore closure.
Why has Itacho Sushi Singapore just vanished without a farewell?
The shutdown has been low-key, with no public farewell message from the brand. Meanwhile, the Itacho Sushi Singapore website is now inaccessible, as well as all its social media accounts being taken offline. Plus, its mobile app has disappeared from both the App Store and Google Play.
Corporate files show that Itacho BM, the company operating the chain here, has been ”gazetted to be struck off” from ACRA’s Register of Companies—with the notice first published in the Government Gazette on February 13 which signals a full withdrawal from the market here.
Additionally, landlords have confirmed that the closures were part of a planned unwinding of Itacho’s Singapore business after the death of its Hong Kong founder, Ricky Cheng, in 2024.
Meanwhile, long-time diners have expressed nostalgia online for the chain’s early days, even as others noted that quality and value had dipped in recent years amid rising prices.
Overall, Itacho’s departure from Singapore is another sign of how even once-popular Japanese concepts are feeling the squeeze from high costs, changing consumer tastes, and intense competition.
