Like most major cities, Singapore is alive with sounds: the sizzle of a hawker stall, the chatter of aunties on the bus, and the wonderfully unique sounds of Singlish. Now, a fascinating immersive experience aims to give you an even better appreciation of sound, as Journey of Oasis is open at The Theatre Practice until August 26. Aiming to take you on a journey beyond the limits of sight, this 60 minute experience encourages you to explore the beauty of the world through sound and touch. Tickets are on sale now, but there’s not much time left to see it, so you’ll want to move fast!
Journey of Oasis unfolds in two parts, with the experience taking about one hour in total. In the first stage, you’ll enter a darkened space that immediately forces you to rely on your remaining senses, as you navigate a city conjured up by the theatre makers without the use of sight. Relying on touch and sound will heighten your hearing, at which point the journey continues to an incredible live concert, giving you a greater appreciation of the music as you’re able to pick out sounds and details that it would normally be easy to overlook.
The experience encourages you to engage more deeply with your imagination than you would by simply watching the concert, and maybe even take this feeling home with you, to see the world with a fresh perspective. It’s fascinating stuff, and with organisers promising “a world where colours are painted with sound and touch“, you can bet we’ll be heading down ASAP to check it out.
Tickets start from $60, with senior tickets available from $40 and group bundles (for a minimum of three people) available for $55 per person. Journey of Oasis is currently on a brief but impactful stop in Singapore, with performances taking place between August 18 & 26, so book your spot soon to ensure you don’t miss out.
