Looking for your next nature escape in Singapore? Tucked away in the western heartlands, Jurong Lake is a spectacular natural haven and the perfect day activity, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Home to one of the largest lake water bodies in Singapore spanning 70 hectares, Jurong Lake Gardens is a wonderful place for a recreational day out. The sprawling 90-hectare lakeside oasis also features the country’s biggest man-made floating wetlands, alongside a range of adventure activities, and scenic trails to hike. Here’s why you should plan a visit.
What makes Singapore’s largest lake a thrilling retreat?
Spanning 70 hectares, the sprawling Jurong Lake is so large that it’s equivalent to the size of nearly 100 football fields. If you were to lay it over Kallang, the water body alone would swallow up the entire 35-hectare Singapore Sports Hub precinct including National Stadium. While MacRitchie and Bedok are indeed larger bodies of water, Jurong Lake holds the title as the largest standalone lake.
The massive freshwater lake offers a tranquil open setting with meandering shorelines, fringed by lush greenery, and dotted with picturesque artificial islands, swampy forests, and cool attractions, such as the iconic Chinese and Japanese Gardens.

Additionally, the area is home to the largest man-made floating wetland in Singapore. Spanning an impressive 3,850 square metres, this unique aquatic ecosystem was developed under PUB’s Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) programme.
Beyond offering a gorgeous destination for sunset photography, the wetlands work incredibly hard behind the scenes. Its bio-engineered root systems naturally filter and maintain the reservoir’s water quality—all while creating a thriving habitat for local fish and vibrant aquatic flora.
There’s no shortage of things to do for adventure seekers too. From cycling to kayaking across the lake’s expansive waters, skating at Singapore’s largest skate park, playing with kids at nature playground Forest Ramble, cooling down in the water park, and sipping on a refreshing coffee at the garden’s Starbucks…it’s a world-class outdoor adventure in our own backyard.

Meanwhile, there are expansive scenic trails and elevated boardwalks promising a highly immersive wildlife experience around the lake. Keep your eyes peeled for resident creatures like Waterhens and Grey Herons as you navigate the winding paths. Plus, visitors can stop and snap pictures at instagrammable pavilions with unobstructed views of the calm water.
Certainly, Jurong Lake offers a fun free thing to do just a short walk from Lakeside MRT on a dry weekend or lazy afternoon.
