A routine morning at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve turned into an usual wildlife sighting when a romp of otters were seen surrounding a crocodile in the water. The unexpected encounter, caught on video and then posted to Facebook, looked less like a peaceful nature experience and more like tense swamp drama, with the tiny but fearless otters refusing to back down from the much larger reptile. And we can’t help but wonder what caused this wildlife drama? Here’s what we know.
What exactly went down at Sungei Buloh with the otters and croc?
The wetlands showdown took place at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve on the morning of March 22 around 7.19am. Wildlife enthusiast Rovena Chow captured the iconic scene on an Iphone 16 ProMax of six otters facing off against a huge crocodile, before sharing the clip to Facebook’s Singapore Wildlife Sightings Group.
In the clip, the otters are seen chirping, circling, and darting around the reptile as it tries to hold its ground in the water. Additionally, the crocodile snaps several times before backing off and disappearing into the murky waters—while the otters stay grouped together looking very happy with themselves, almost like they won the showdown.

Another wildlife watcher, Dan Walsh, described the scene to local media as an incredible encounter and said the crocodile appeared defensive while the otters stayed alert and moved in close formation. Plus, there is nearly 100 comments from residents on the post discussing the otters behaviour.
