Get ready for a triple dose of cuteness, because for the first time in its history, Singapore Zoo is celebrating the pitter-patter of tiny, incredibly rare paws. Excitingly, three adorable Sri Lankan leopard cubs—two laid-back little dudes and one fiesty female—have officially made their highly-anticipated public debut at the Wild Africa exhibit. Born on New Year’s Day (January 1) to globe-trotting parents Yala and Asanka, these bouncy three-month-old triplets aren’t just stealing the show with their playful antics; they represent a massive, heartwarming win for global conservation efforts. Here’s what we know about the Singapore Zoo baby leopards debut.
Why are these Sri Lankan leopard cubs such a massive deal?
The arrival of these Sri Lankan leopard cubs is a monumental milestone, marking the first successful birth of the species at the Singapore Zoo, including a first for Mandai Wildlife Group. Notably, Sri Lankan leopards are heavily threatened by habitat loss and the illegal wildlife trade—earning them a Vulnerable Status on the IUCN Red List. With fewer than 800 estimated to remain in the wild, managed populations are critical. Globally, there are only about 80 of these type of leopards in zoos too.

Interestingly, the triplets parents, 8.5-year-old Yala from the UK and 5-year-old Asanka from Australia, were matched through an internationally coordinated breeding programme by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). In fact, this transcontinental matchmaking process took nearly three years.
Wonderfully, the cubs are thriving and developing rapidly under the watchful eye of their mom Yala. Meanwhile, the trio received a clean bill of health and standard vaccinations during a February vet check, and now weigh around 5kg each. Plus, they are already on a partial meat diet which helps build vital chewing and scent recognition skills. The keepers noted that the triplets have distinct personalities and spend their days play fighting and tumbling over low-incline logs.

Today, Singapore Zoo is home to six Sri Lankan leopards (with one additional leopard at Night Safari). Soon the triplets official names will be revealed in partnership with exhibit sponsor Haw Par.
Be sure to catch the fluffy family of leopards exploring their exhibit daily until mid May 2026 and on every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday after that.
