Have you ever dreamed of diving deep into the world’s oceans? Or wondered what occurs beneath the earth’s surface? From majestic mammals living beneath the waves to millions of microscopic organisms existing on a singular leaf, there’s so much more to our ecosystem than meets the eye! And you can discover these hidden wonders at Sensory Odyssey: Into the Heart of Our Living World, a multi-sensory and immersive exhibition at ArtScience Museum, open until October 29.
Presenting specially designed scents, sound effects and high-definition videos, this remarkable exhibition is a multi-sensory experience like no other. Guided by the power of sight, sound and smell, this immersive journey gives visitors an enriched understanding of our living world, encouraging positive action to protect its future.
At Sensory Odyssey, you’ll embark on an expedition across seven distinct natural environments. Encounter animals in the darkness of the African Savannah. Descend through the rainforest canopy of French Guiana and take to the skies with the Serotine Bats as they find their way in the dark using echolocation. Go underground and discover the life that exists beneath our feet. Bathe in the spring sunlight surrounded by fresh grass and insects within. Swim with whales in the ocean near Mauritius and admire the dramatic beauty of the polar landscapes in the far north of Greenland.
Along the way, you’ll get up close and personal with a magnificent variety of animals, plants, microscopic organisms and mushroom species. With hyper-realistic large-scale projections, you’ll be able to appreciate the flora and fauna in all their glory and explore the surroundings as engaged participants rather than observers. You can also discover beautiful scenery from different corners of the earth, as each habitat features breathtaking original nature footages shot on location by the Sensory Odyssey’s team.
Your Sensory Odyssey expedition concludes in the Discover: Our Nature Our Stories gallery. This is your chance to learn more about the flora and fauna you’ve seen along the way, and the extraordinary richness of its ecosystems. Seven commissioned videos spotlight local experts and advocates, sharing enriching stories about Singapore’s biodiversity, conservation efforts and research.
Before heading home, an interactive installation titled: Protecting Nature’s Superheroes, the Mangroves encourages you to contribute your own stories. Write them down on leaf-shaped notes and incorporate them into the mangrove forest display. As you contribute to the growth of the mangrove display through reflections on our living world or even personal commitments in preserving our natural environment, ArtScience Museum, through its partnership with WWF- Singapore (World Wide Fund for Nature Singapore) will support planting of real mangrove trees in the Rajang-Belawai-Paloh Delta in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Over the duration of the exhibition, the mangrove trees will gain more and more leaves until they are finally in full bloom, and hence the actions of visitors to Sensory Odyssey will lend support to the planting of thousands of mangrove trees in Southeast Asia, preserving nature in the region.
This exhibition is in line with ArtScience Museum’s upcoming Sustainable Futures programme.
