In a landmark move for Australian aviation, Singapore Airlines (SIA) has officially been confirmed as the first international carrier to operate out of the brand-new Western Sydney International Airport (WSI)—otherwise known as Nancy-Bird Walton. The historic daily services by Singapore Airlines will begin on November 23, 2026, offering a direct link between Singapore Changi Airport and Sydney’s second major gateway airport. Interestingly, WSI will be the only local airport to operate 24 hours a day without a curfew when it opens in October 2026. This provides a flexible alternative to the slot-constrained Kingsford Smith Airport, marking a game-changing shift for travellers. In fact, these will be the first curfew-free flights from Sydney. Here’s what we know.
How will Singapore Airlines flights from Western Sydney benefit travellers?
Wonderfully, the new schedule is designed to maximise global connectivity for travellers. The daily flight, SQ202, is slated to depart Western Sydney at 11:55PM, arriving in Singapore at 5:05AM the following morning. Certainly, this late night departure is a game-changer for those looking to connect seamlessly to more than 130 destinations across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Meanwhile, the return flight (SQ201) will depart Singapore at 11:30AM and land in Western Sydney at 10:20PM—providing a rare daytime option for the journey to Australia from Singapore.
The route will be serviced by the Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft, featuring a two-class configuration with 40 Business Class seats and 263 Economy Class seats. Travellers can expect the same 5-star Skytrax service found on SIA’s other Australian routes. Although, this specific aircraft does not offer Premium Economy or First Class.

Excitingly, tickets for the new Singapore to Sydney route went on sale on March 25, 2026. Early bird buyers can get cheaper tickets with introductory fares and Saver award seats currently available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Find tickets.

The new Sydney airport is located around 45 kilometres west of the CBD. It is positioned as a primary hub for the three million residents of Greater Western Sydney. While a direct express train to the city centre is not part of the grand opening, the airport will be accessible via the new M12 Motorway and dedicated Sydney Metro Line connecting to the broader rail network. Definitely, this new flight option will significantly reduce travel times for residents and offer all visitors alternative options for entering and leaving Australia.
Overall, this flight path represents the beginning of a new era for curfew-free travel in Australia. For decades, Sydney travellers have been limited by the strict 11 PM shutdown at the city’s main airport. So, the launch of curfew-free flights at WSI makes late-night departures possible.
