Singaporeans dreaming of crossing the causeway without the dreaded multi-hour jam can do so in just over three months. The highly-anticipated Johor Bahru – Singapore RTS Link is now officially slated to open to the public in February 2027. After a slight delay to allow for independent safety certifications, physical construction and system installations are fully on track to wrap up by December 31, 2026. Here’s what we know.
5 minute rides to JB
The Johor Bahru – Singapore Rapid Transit System is currently undergoing rigorous testing, fault-free trial runs, and independent safety certifications. With tens of thousands expected to ride the system daily, authorities are prioritizing a flawless, safe launch over a rushed Christmas debut.
Wonderfully, the RTS Link promises to fundamentally change how we travel to Johor Bahru. Commuters will hop on at Woodlands North Station and arrive at Bukit Chagar in just five minutes.
Plus, there’ll be co-located immigration so you’ll clear both Singapore and Malaysia customs at your point of departure. By the time you step off the train, you’ll be free to head straight to the malls or cafes without queuing at the border again.
Here’s everything to know about the new system to prep for your first jam-free border crossing this coming February:
- Massive Capacity: The network is designed to handle up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, which will drastically cut down the notorious Friday night border chaos.
- Quick Turnarounds: Trains will run daily from 6:00 AM to midnight, with wait times as short as 3.6 minutes during peak hours.
- Seamless Transfers: The Woodlands North station connects directly to Singapore’s Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL). This makes it incredibly easy to travel from the CBD or the East Coast straight into JB without switching to a bus.
Until the Singapore Malaysia RTS Link trains officially roll out, cross-border weekend warriors will need to stick to buses, private cars, and KTM Shuttle Tebrau.
