But something’s been rattling among the bottles recently. From comedy-wine tasting shows to wine-inspired murder mysteries, the Lion City’s notoriously snobby wine scene is finally learning to loosen up with some unlikely pairings.
Wine and comedy in Singapore: laugh and sip at An Idiot’s Guide to Wine
Let’s kick things off with a giggle—An Idiot’s Guide to Wine debuts in Singapore this July inside MDLR. It’s essentially a wine-tasting-meets-stand-up-comedy show that takes all the pretentiousness out of traditional tastings. Attendees sip their way through six hand-picked wines while a comedian provides all the gags on stage. The show itself was written by Merrick Watts, the only comedian in the world to possess a WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) level 3 qualification, so expect big laughs backed by genuinely sharp wine smarts as you sip.

Wine and games: a vino-inspired murder mystery experience
Wine and games is always a good time. Wine Cluedo by A Wine Adventure is described as an “experiential and sensory approach” to wine tasting, because you don’t just sip on the good stuff—you try to uncover the identity of a killer in your midst, too. It comes with all the good-old-fashioned detective themes of the traditional board game, plus delicious wines that you’ll explore with the help of a certified lady master of ceremony.

Wine and trivia: World Cup quiz night at Vivino
Know your football as much as you know your wine? This June, Vivino Wine Shop SG will be hosting their World Cup Trivia Night, which mixes football Qs with a few wine-inspired brain teasers. Each ticket comes with three glasses of wine (an Italian red, Australian Shiraz and a Spanish white, to be specific) poured throughout the evening and prizes include up to $100 in Vivino store credits.
