Singapore’s Supertree Grove seamlessly blends cutting-edge sustainability, urban innovation, and iconic design, creating both a powerful symbol of green ambition and a major tourist attraction. The visually-striking attraction has transformed the city’s skyline and attracts millions of visitors each year. And for this reason, other countries are eager to replicate these types of attractions. Wonderfully, Chennai is set to unveil India’s first-ever Supertree Tower next year, which is a landmark inspired by Singapore’s iconic SuperTree Grove. Here’s what we know.
How is the Supertree in Chennai similar to Singapore?
Chennai’s stunning Supertree Tower will open at the newly developed Kalaignar Centenary Super Tree Tower Park on Cathedral Road. The 105-foot-tall, 10-storey tower is set to offer visitors sweeping panoramic views of the city – no matter the time of day. Meanwhile, there will be space for up to 100 people at once on its air-conditioned glass viewing deck.
Interestingly, the Supertree Tower is wrapped in living greenery, with its trunk and canopy designed to evoke the futuristic, eco-friendly aesthetic of its Singaporean counterpart. Two elevators and a staircase provide access to the top, where visitors can enjoy both indoor and outdoor viewing zones. Additionally, the tower is complemented by a range of attractions within the park. These include a 10,000-square-foot glasshouse filled with exotic plants from around the world, a horticultural museum, a rare bird aviary, a 500-metre zipline, and a musical fountain, making it a multifaceted destination.
Additionally, Supertree Tower itself is constructed using energy-efficient materials. Meanwhile, the park features granite slabs at the entrance and the strategic location connects to popular neighbourhoods – adding to its appeal. However, there is no official confirmation if Chennai’s Supertrees will feature a night time showcase.
Plus, Chennai’s new public space featuring Supertree Tower will be ticked. Meanwhile, there will be separate fees for special attractions like zipline and aviary.
Certainly, Super Tree Tower Park, developed by the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Development Agency (TANHODA), is set to draw millions of visitors to this world-class green space in the heart of Chennai.
