East-West Line MRT breakdown
Train commuters travelling between the nine-station stretch between Queenstown and Boon Lay stations on the East-West-Line (EWL) needed longer travel time due to a track fault today.
Meanwhile, affected passengers were advised to consider alternative routes, such as free regular bus services, between Buona Vista and Boon Lay stations to ease the inconvenience.
SMRT worked to manage the disruption and they gave an update at 3.45pm citing that the track fault happened west-bound between the Jurong East and Clementi stations around 1.10pm. Westbound services were turned around at Jurong East to continue eastbound trains. According to SMRT, its engineering team were on-site trying to fix this problem but faced issues due to bad weather conditions.
Although, SMRT gave an update around 4.08pm that normal trains services on the EWL had resumed, while free regular buses ceased to operate.
Indeed, this incident highlights ongoing challenges with MRT reliability in Singapore. This particular disruption of the track fault along the East-West Line adds to a series of recent incidents that have drawn public concern. More to follow on this story.
