Ever wonder what happens to the decommissioned SMRT trains? There has to be somewhere they go right? Well, local startup Tiny Pod and JTC have teamed up to reuse and turn one of the trains into a quirky staycation at LaunchPad in One-North. In fact, it will be the first-ever train carriage co-living hotel in Singapore. Find out about it below:
Train Pod @ One-North, Singapore
The country’s first co-living train hotel invites guests to sleep inside stylish carriages at a location at 69 Ayer Rajah Crescent. Created by Tiny Pod, the boutique hotel boasts eight rooms, with ensuite bathrooms, and immersive experiences like LCD panels featuring real-life footage of the train’s earlier journeys. In fact, the original train interior has been preserved, including handrails and seating, and it blends seamless with modern amenities.
Each room is equipped with beds to accommodate two guests, air-conditioning, WiFi, and streaming services like Netflix, alongside shared facilities like an outdoor kitchen, a 24/7 vending machine, and coin-operated laundry machines.
Additionally, the MRT-themed hotel offers a communal space complete with original MRT train bicycle racks and train seats on an alfresco terrace. Certainly, the perfect place to mingle with other guests.
Meanwhile, Tiny Pod worked with local startups including Igloohome for smart lock systems, Ailytics for AI-powered crowd counting and crisis detection, and Vouch for self check-in and GenAI chatbots, to enhance the co-living.
The Train Pod is a similar concept to the brand’s other cool and eco-conscious shipping container hotels such as LaunchPad @ One North and Garden Pod inside Gardens By The Bay.
Wonderfully, Train Pod @ One North is set to open in Singapore during the second half of 2025. Certainly, this is a unique experience for a memorable staycation in Singapore. Book here.
