Singaporeans on a trip to New York can indulge in a piece of home because a traditional food centre has launched in NYC. Urban Hawker is the very first Singapore-style hawker centre in New York and the United States, boasting 17 authentic food vendors with 11 directly replicated from Singapore.
The Hawker Centre opened to the public on September 28. Introducing Singapore’s rich dining culture to the Big Apple. Wonderfully, it’s just a four minute walk from Times Square.
The iconic food centre was curated by Mr KF Seetoh, founder of Makansutra, a Singaporean company dedicated to promoting heritage street food globally. It is in partnership with NYC’s Urbanspace and can sit up to 200 people.
Excellently, customers can enjoy a range of other cuisines such as Chinese, Indian, Malay and more. Highlights include Wok & Staple by Chinese Dragon Phoenix, White Restaurant, Daisy Dream’s offering Peranakan dishes and even a tasty halal burger chain from Singapore. Plus, NYC’s first Southeast Asian pastry shop and a boozy gin cocktail bar called Lady Wong is located at the centre.
