Gardens by the Bay has just unveiled plans for the iconic Wetlands by the Bay. A major 5-hectare expansion of the existing Kingfisher Wetlands precinct along the waterfront promenade near Gardens by the Bay MRT station. This development will triple the mangrove and coastal plant collection to more than 600 species, including critically-endangered ones sourced from equatorial countries like Ecuador, Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, and Timor Leste totaling over 50,000 plants. Additionally, it will boast the first-ever multisensory indoor and outdoor voyage experience by famous art collective TeamLab. Wonderfully, the new space aims to attract biodiversity, including endangered birds, while serving as a nature-based climate solution for urban cities. Here’s what we know.
What is Wetlands by the Bay?
At the heart of Wetlands by the Bay is TeamLab’s flagship museum measuring 12,000 sqm. It will feature the art collective’s first multisensory indoor and outdoor voyage experience with custom pedal kayaks traversing controlled waterways for an immersive encounter with freshwater wetland habitats. Meanwhile, visitors will seamlessly transition between indoor galleries and landscapes—blending art, science, technology, and nature in a way unique to Singapore’s rare urban wetlands.

Other highlights include a new cantilevered canopy boardwalk extended over the wetlands, offering panoramic views and connecting the MRT station to some of the garden’s main attractions. Plus, there’ll be community spaces like the Glade Lawn for events, alongside refreshed waterfront dining options like a ground-level food court and upper-deck restaurants with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Complementing this is a new sinuous bridge linking Bay South and Bay East Gardens across the Marina Reservoir. The project begins construction in Q2 2026 and should be completed in 2028. It will offer a 175m walking on water stretch with skyline views of supertrees, conservatories, and Bay East’s redevelopments opening in 2027.
