ArtScience Museum has an amazing line-up of programmes and events planned so you can see off 2024 in style. This November and December, head down to Singapore’s iconic landmark where art, science, culture and technology intersect and explore what’s in store. From exhibitions and events to film screenings, workshops, and guided tours – there’s so much to enjoy!
1. Into Still Life by Shaman Tearoom
Eastern philosophy, tea ceremonies and performance art come together in ArtScience Encounters: m—a, a micro season of performances that invites you to ground and centre yourself in the present moment. In this unique performative experience crafted by multidisciplinary art collective Shaman Tearoom, you will embark on a journey that delves into the state of stillness amidst the flux of change.

2. the centre trembles by XUE
Wander through ArtScience Museum’s Oculus, the hollow core of the building’s architecture, and you’ll encounter a durational performance by butoh artist XUE. For the centre trembles, XUE will remain in the space and its surrounding vicinity for the entirety of the museum’s operational hours. Visitors can pass through freely, and bear witness to the rhythms of choice, change and stillness of the body in space.

3. Sen at VR Gallery
Experience a Japanese tea ceremony with a twist in this immersive VR experience. The journey begins inside a tea-bowl, where a tiny being is slowly awakening. Sen, the spirit of tea, is only just discovering the world and you’re invited to join this curious little tea sprite as it interacts with its environment. You’ll even discover what happens when Sen grows comfortable in its environment and begins to think and act more selfishly…

4. ArtScience Cinema film programmes
In the lead up to the holidays, ArtScience Cinema presents a series of animation features about relationships. In The Glassworker, audiences will discover a love story that is put to the test through time and various conflicts. Meanwhile, Sirocco and the Kingdom of Winds tells the story of two sisters who are transformed into cats after discovering a magical book. To immerse yourself in these visual adventures, book your tickets now!

5. Tour: Architecture of ArtScience Museum
Architecture is a fascinating form of art in its own right, and if you want to know more about the iconic structure of ArtScience Museum, you’re in luck! In these architecture tours you’ll discover how the location of the museum has shaped its architectural plans and learn about the eco-friendly and sustainability features of the building. Mandarin tours are conducted on the first and last Thursday of each month.
Dates: Available from Tuesdays to Thursday, 4pm
Ticket price: $5/pax (This tour does not require exhibition entry)

6. Altered States: Experiments in Moving Image
Altered States: Experiments in Moving Image features the experimental techniques of a group of local and international artists and filmmakers who have used everyday materials, cameraless techniques, chemical and ecological processes to redefine our understanding of moving image and blur the lines between art, science and experimental cinema. From the saturated micro-world of ‘soap film’, where surface tension and light combine to create vibrant colours and patterns, to the contemplative and durational act of melting wax which speaks of the passing of time, the works in this exhibition challenge traditional visual narratives and reveal the transformative possibilities of film.

7. The World of Studio Ghibli
Allow yourself to be spirited away into the beloved world of Studio Ghibli in this large-scale exhibition which brings to life 11 films including My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke and more. Wander through theatrical sets, interactive art installations and learn more about the extraordinary characters and stories of these acclaimed animations.

8. Audio Trail: The World of Studio Ghibli
If you’d like to elevate your experience of The World of Studio Ghibli exhibition we highly recommend the exclusive audio trail! Uncover intriguing insights into the making of the films, and learn fascinating facts about your favourite characters and scenes.
