A delightful new heritage hotel opened in the heart of Clarke Quay in December. The beautiful 48-room property is an urban oasis along Carpenter Street giving easy access to explore Singapore on foot or by MRT and bus. 21 Carpenter in Singapore boasts one of the most scenic new infinity pools in the city with unmatched views of Marina Bay Sands and beyond.
We discovered why 21 Carpenter offers a rich and modern escape filled with culture and heritage between Chinatown and Clarke Quay on our stay this month. Here’s why 21 Carpenter is the perfect stay for business travellers, solo travellers, and even families.
21 Carpenter, Singapore
21 Carpenter was designed by award-winning firm WOHA Architects who are known for masterpieces such as ParkRoyal Collection Pickering. The building carefully preserves the past using storied materials, original Chengal wood in the Lobby floors, and Chinese inscriptions from the original 1936s Chye Hua Seng Wee Kee remittance house.
The hotel’s space has been revamped with stunning interior designs, featuring a chic and swanky setting, adorned with iconic artworks by The Artling and 1930s Art Deco. The impressive blend of modernity in one of the oldest shophouses in the district makes the property unique.
Upon entering the wheelchair accessible Lobby on the first floor, you’ll be greeted by attentive staff and welcomed into a cosy colourful social space, with a triple-volume ceiling with glass windows, perfect for relaxing or working on your laptop. So, travellers who enjoy peace and quiet will adore 21 Carpenter in Singapore.
Accommodation
Secret Singapore stayed in Room 305 on the third floor but guests have a choice between Heritage Rooms or Suites from Level 2 to 4 and Urban Rooms or Suites from Level 5 to 8.Each room is warm, spacious and infused with heritage blending modern amenities such as plush beds, contemporary designs and artworks, and state-of-the-art accessories.
Our charming Heritage Suite featured an elegant dining room that doubles as a work space, snug living room featuring a large flatscreen TV, signature Wet Bar, and an open space that leads to a king-size bed and stylish bathroom complete with a soothing rain shower. An interesting feature was the wardrobe with a sliding heritage door which was hiding a mini bar and sink, indulgent local snacks and global brands, specialty coffee and teas, free water, and more.
Other room amenities include the bathroom stacked with Dyson hairdryer and Smith and Co supplies, as well as toiletries to save you a run to the store, 24/7 concierge, Bluetooth speaker, free wifi, electronic safe, and free bakery goodies like shortbread in collaboration with famous The Fat Kid Bakery, to name a few.
Definitely, the room is a top-notch urban sanctuary for a cosy and peaceful stay in the city centre for both locals and travellers.
Neo-Bistro & Bar
Wonderfully, there’s a sophisticated new 71-seater neo bistro on the first floor next to the Lobby. Kee’s is the perfect place to savour the taste of authentic European classics with Asian influences crafted by Michelin starred Irish chef Andrew Walsh.
The restaurant features a chef’s table, a lively bar with groovy music by DJ Aldrin, booths for group dinners, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows boasting plenty of natural light. Guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner, alongside signature cocktails and curated wines.
Kee’s pays tribute to the buildings 1936 roots as a former remittance house. In fact, the name of the restaurant is a reference to the history of the district.
Facilities
Beyond the rooms at 21 Carpenter, guests can immerse themselves in an iconic infinity pool and a gorgeous peaceful garden in the sky that doubles as an event space.
Notably, the crown jewel of the property is the Rooftop Infinity Pool & Lounge on Level 9. In my opinion, it’s probably one of the best swimming pool viewpoints in Singapore offering panoramic views of Marina Bay Sands, downtown core, and the cityscape both day and night.
Interestingly, the pool is Singapore’s first stainless steel infinity pool. The rooftop is complete with photovoltaic panels and hybrid cooling system. While the serene Urban Garden on Level 3 is a green oasis that’s perfect for relaxing or reading a book in a peaceful location.
The property doesn’t have a gym. However, there are many easy routes to jog, as well as parks, gardens, and city gyms for fitness enthusiasts wanting to exercise on their trip nearby. Meanwhile, the hotel is walking distance from many popular Singapore landmarks.
Additionally, the eco-conscious 21 Carpenter showcases its protectiveness of the planet with use of reclaimed heritage materials, a zero plastic policy, and other daily sustainable practices. Plus, it is in the process of attaining the BCA Green Mark Certification.
Definitely, 21 Carpenter is the perfect place to stay, dine, and take an adventure in Singapore. A wonderful staycation option for sure. Book your stay at 21 Carpenter here.
