Singapore is set to witness a stunning Blood Moon this September 2025—for the second total lunar eclipse of 2025. The celestial event will be visible from Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and Australia this week on the night of September 7 to 8, 2025. Wonderfully, Singapore and the rest of the Asia region will have the best views worldwide of the total lunar eclipse. So, you can’t miss one of the year’s most stunning sights for a lengthy 82 minutes when the Earth aligns directly between the Sun and the full Moon—casting its shadow on the lunar surface. In fact, it will be the first total lunar eclipse visible in Singapore since 2022. Here’s why you can’t miss the 2025 Blood Moon in Singapore.
What is a Blood Moon?
A Blood Moon, is a total lunar eclipse, when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon forming a shadow on the lunar surface. During the eclipse, the Moon takes on a red colour because Earth’s atmosphere filters and bends sunlight—scattering shorter blue wavelengths and allowing the longer red wavelengths to pass through and illuminate the Moon. Therefore, the Moon appears with a blood-red-orange glow. Normally, there are two Blood Moons visible per year from Earth, though up to four can occur.
Interestingly, the September 2025 Blood Moon will be one of the longest in recent years—with the totality phase lasting approximately 82 minutes—making it a captivating event for observers. Particularly, Asia and western Australia are prime viewing areas. In fact, it’s the longest total lunar eclipse to occur in seven years after the one hour and 43 minutes Blood Moon back in July 2018.
Additionally, the September Blood Moon is unique because it coincides with the full moon in the zodiac sign of Pisces—which astrologers associate with spiritual growth, emotional healing, and deep intuition. Certainly, this evokes a sense of mystical significance that symbolises closure, forgiveness, and the unearthing of hidden truths.

What time will it be visible in Singapore?
The maximum eclipse (when the moon is mostly red) will occur around 2.11am on September 8, 2025. Although, the moon will begin to turn red from around 11.30pm local time.
Singapore residents should look to the eastern horizon just after sunset to catch the Moon rising during its eclipse phases. Experts recommend watching for at least an hour before and after the totality phase, which is around 17.30 to 18.52 GMT (1.30am to 2.52am SGT).
The next Blood Moon date is unknown so this celestial spectacle is an awe-inspiring sky watching opportunity for enthusiasts and spiritual observers alike.
