Singapore is our #1, so it’s always great to see when the rest of the world recognises the city’s brilliance too – and that’s exactly what happened after the World Airport Awards, handed out each year by airline consultancy Skytrax, anointed Singapore Changi as the world’s best airport for 2023. This year’s triumph marks the twelfth time that Changi has been voted the best in the world, and we really can’t say we’re surprised!
As passenger numbers rebound as the Covid-19 pandemic passes, Changi has returned to the summit of the rankings after two years in third place. The previous top two – Hamad International Airport in Doha, and Tokyo Haneda Airport – are at #2 and #3 respectively, and whilst we’re sure they’re fine airports, it’s great to have Singapore’s international hub at the top of the tree. In fact, when the list was released in 2021 and Changi appeared in 3rd, it ended an amazing eight-year reign as the best airport in the world.
The Skytrax awards survey customers and passengers from across the airline industry, who vote across a number of categories – you can see the full list of winners here. Speaking after the win, Changi Airport Group CEO Lee Seow Hiang said “This recognition is great encouragement to our airport community, who stood firmly together to battle the challenges of Covid-19 over the past two years. We thank them for their dedication to serve Changi’s passengers and the perseverance to keep Singapore connected to the world.”
It’s not the only award that Changi won on the night, however, as the airport also collected awards for Best Airport Dining and Best Airport Leisure Amenities. Indeed, those leisure amenities have just got even better with the opening of climbing wall Climb@T3, and knowing Changi, there’ll be many more to come!
