Japan announced today (May 17) that it would begin a test tourism initiative by means of limited package tours for a small number of countries, to gather information before fully reopening its borders.
Wonderfully, tourists from Singapore, Australia, Thailand and the United States will be permitted entry under this test tourism scheme. However, entry requirements include each person being triple vaccinated against COVID-19.
Additionally, the trial will be planned in collaboration with travel tour agencies, where tour guides must accompany travellers at all times in order to control the spread of possible infection. Subsequently, travellers must purchase medical insurance.
According to Japan Tourism Agency, six travel agencies such as Jalpack Co. and Nippon Travel Agency will take part in the project.
Although the project date is unclear, Singaporeans can expect to travel to Japan later this month. Indeed, Japan relies heavily on tourism but adopted strict border measures in early 2020. Consequently, tourists have not entered Japan since, only some students and business travellers despite the fall of the yen.
Known for gorgeous cherry blossoms, advanced technology, mouthwatering cuisine and icons like Mount Fuji…Japan is the ultimate holiday destination.
