Get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant, rebellious, and endlessly playful world of pop art. On December 11, National Gallery Singapore is teaming up with New York’s Guggenheim Museum to launch Pop after Pop: Art around Us. This blockbuster exhibition brings the global pop art phenomenon to the heart of the city with more than 200 dynamic works by over 100 artists. In fact, it’s actually the largest Pop Art group exhibition to be staged in Southeast Asia. Here’s what to expect.
What the exhibition covers
The first-ever collaboration between National Gallery Singapore and New York’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation sees key works on loan from the NYC collection.
The sprawling showcase explores how the movement’s bold spirit has shaped contemporary art across Southeast Asia, the United States, and beyond. Interestingly, it examines how artists in the region drew on mass media, advertising, and the textures of daily urban life to respond to their own political realities and social shifts.
The exhibition includes legends like Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Yoshitomo Nara. Highlights from the American canon include a monumental three-panel oil Preparedness, Andy Warhol’s screen prints, alongside Southeast Asian favourites like Manit Sriwanichpoom’s Shocking Pink Collection and Ming Wong’s Life of Imitation.
Southeast Asia’s largest Pop Art group exhibition will take over four galleries and various public spaces throughout the National Gallery Singapore until April 4, 2027. Admission begins at $15 for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents and $25 for foreign residents and tourists.
