Singapore is in for a celestial treat as a rare Planet Parade graces the night skies this January 2025 and February 2025. The phenomenon, where six planets – Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune – appear to line up from Earth’s perspective, is visible until February 20, 2025. The stunning celestial event is a rare opportunity to see multiple planets aligned in the night sky. Allegedly, it won’t happen again for 400 years! Here’s what you need to know about Planet Parade 2025:
Planet Parade 2025
A Planet Parade occurs when several planets appear aligned in the sky – although they are not physically aligned in space. The striking display is bright enough to see four planets aligned on a clear night with the naked eye in Singapore. However, Uranus and Neptune require telescopes or binoculars for viewing.
Venus and Saturn glow brightly in the southwestern sky, while Jupiter dominates the southern sky, and Mars rises in the east with a reddish hue. Of course, the best time to witness the rare event is shortly after sunset after 9.30pm on clear nights.
Recommended viewing points in Singapore include Marina Barrage, East Coast Park, and the Southern Ridges, for an unobstructed view of the night sky. Meanwhile, Science Centre Observatory will host stargazing events on January 31 and February 7, 2025.
This planetary alignment is particularly special because something similar won’t occur again in Singapore’s night skies again until January 2036. Meanwhile, this kind of Planet Parade won’t happen for another 400 years according to reports. Definitely, this astronomical marvel is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for families and stargazing enthusiasts. Plus, you won’t be able to see six planets aligned together for 11 years.
Additionally, you can witness the rare Planet Parade together with the Crescent Moon on February 1, 2025. More to follow.
