Do you believe in aliens? Well even if you don’t, alien believers walk among us, and according to studies, there are a surprising number of locals in Singapore who believe in extraterrestrials. While Singaporeans are known for their pragmatism, some locals are open to the idea that aliens might one day drop by for a visit. Whether it’s curiosity sparked by sci-fi blockbusters, far too many TikTok conspiracy theories, or a fascination with the unknown…belief in extraterrestrial life has quietly taken root in the Lion City. In fact, Singapore ranks among the top 10 countries that believe in aliens. Here’s what we know.
Which countries believe in aliens the most?
Singapore ranks among the top 10 countries most likely to believe aliens could visit Earth, according to a major Ipsos poll conducted across various countries in 2022. Specifically, 22% of Singaporean respondents said they thought it was likely aliens would come to our planet. Interestingly, Singapore and Indonesia share the same percentage of beliefs sharing eight and ninth place on the list.
While Singaporeans have a moderate belief in aliens, there is a significant openness to the possibility of extraterrestrial encounters, even if the majority remain skeptical. Meanwhile, Thailand leads the way for Asia with the strongest belief in aliens.
Additionally, India has the strongest belief in aliens worldwide according to studies. India ranks with a 43% belief in aliens, followed by Saudi Arabia at 38%, and the UAE making up the top three with a 36% belief in aliens.
Here are the top 10 countries most likely to believe in aliens:
- India (43%)
- Saudi Arabia (38%)
- UAE (36%)
- Thailand (29%)
- Colombia (26%)
- China (25%)
- Peru (23%)
- Singapore (22%)
- Indonesia (22%)

Overall, these findings suggest that interest in alien life resonates strongly across Asia and the Middle East. Although, a 2003 regional poll indicated that 89% of Singaporeans believed aliens existed, so a 22% belief rate 20 years later showcases a shift in changing attitudes. Nevertheless, the debate on UFO sightings and the mystery around aliens are still intriguing topics over a coffee.
