Thailand is set to launch an attention-grabbing initiative before the end of 2025. The initiative offers free domestic flights to foreign tourists, including Singaporeans. This move is particularly enticing for Singapore residents, as Thailand remains one of the most popular and accessible destinations for short getaways and extended holidays. But what’s the catch? Thailand’s ”Buy International, Free Thailand Domestic Flights” programme is a targeted low-season push aimed at redistributing tourist footfall and boosting regional tourism economies. Here’s how the Thailand free flights initiative works.
Free domestic flights Thailand
Thai authorities may offer 200,000 free domestic round-trip flight tickets (or two one-ways) between September and November 2025. This is to encourage travellers to discover secondary destinations in Thailand.
Participating airlines include Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, and Thai Vietjet. Each flight ticket comes with a 20kg baggage allowance, and the subsidy covers up to THB 1,750 (S$64) for one-way or THB 3,500 (S$128) for a round-trip within Thailand.
This direct government investment is estimated to inject at least THB 8.8 billion into local economies. Certainly, this reflects a strategic shift mirroring global travel trends to encourage longer stays and broader exploration to lesser-known gems instead of crowded tourist hotspots.
This Thailand free flights campaign means travellers can pair a shopping break in Bangkok with a serene countryside escape in Chiang Rai, or see the world’s 3rd best beach, or even enjoy the cultural wonders of Sukhothai—at no additional flight cost. In fact, Thailand’s tourism ministry is betting that enticing travellers to visit a wider range of destinations will benefit both locals and visitors alike.
