Another day, another train disruption in Singapore! Commuter’s journeys were heavily impacted today on February 10, 2025 because of significant train delays in Singapore. The North-East Line (NEL) was particularly affected due to a signaling fault at Buangkok MRT station. Operator of the NEL, SBS Transit, reported that the disruption began before 6.30am and lasted around two hours. The delay caused frustration among commuters on their way to work and school, as well as overcrowding at several stations. Here’s what we know about the train delays in Singapore:
Train delays Singapore
The train delays in Singapore on February 10 follows other major incidents in recent months.
Initially, commuters were advised to expect 10 to 15 minutes of additional travel time due to the delay. However, this was later revised to up to 30 minutes as the situation got worse. Meanwhile, the delay caused overcrowding at several stations, including Punggol and Hougang, with some passengers reporting extended travel times of over an hour.
As a result, commuters were encourages to use alternative MRT lines in Singapore. This included the Circle Line, North-South Line, and Downtown Line, which were not affected. Additionally, SBS Transit were forced to deploy free regular and bridging bus services between affected stations like Punggol Coast and Dhuby Ghaut. Despite these measures, many passengers were left fuming over inadequate communication and difficulties accessing bridging buses.
SBS Transit reported that train services on the NEL had returned to normal operations by 8.23am.
Singapore’s public transport system has drawn major criticism as a result of repeated disruptions in recent times. Just three days earlier on February 7, a faulty engineering vehicle caused delays on the North-South and East-West MRT lines, which prevented trains from operating on schedule during peak morning hours. Plus, there have been frequent MRT breakdowns occurring the past few months.
