Did you think Ancient Egypt was all about dusty sand dunes, giant stone pyramids, and golden sarcophagi? Think again! Singapore’s Gardens By The Bay is completely reimagining the ancient realm bringing the lush, colour-drenched gardens of the pharaohs to life in Lilytopia. In fact, this is its first-ever Egypt themed floral display.
Officially launched with a symbolic water pour into a Nile-inspired pond, this breathtaking exhibit marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Egypt. Located in Flower Dome, the iconic display runs until September 27 and transforms historic myth into vibrant reality by inviting visitors to step into a lost paradise where nature, culture, and ancient storytelling intertwine. Here’s what to expect.
Why is Singapore’s first Ancient Egypt floral display a must-visit?
Lilytopia 2026 features more than 7,000 lilies across 46 species and varieties, centered around a recreated formal Egyptian garden with a rectangular pool that pays tribute to the life-giving Nile River.
Among the floating flora is the rare and sacred Egyptian blue Waterlily, giant South American Victoria Amazonica and Victoria Cruziana waterlilies cultivated in-house from seeds over 1.5 years and making their Flower Dome debut, alongside over 40 colourful garden lily varieties. Completing the living landscape are everyday ancient plants like ginger, pomegranate, and papyrus.
Additionally, there’s an impressive collection of ancient architecture and scared iconography. Among them, a 4.5-metre-tall façade inspired by the Great Temple of Abu Simbel, showcasing the four monumental seated statues of King Ramesses II originally created around 1264 BC. Meanwhile, vivid hieroglyphs modeled after the Temple of Hathor at Dendera reveal the colorful paint palettes ancient Egyptians actually used, while architectural elements recall the Temple of Edfu.
Plus, towering statues depict deities such as Hathor (goddess of music, joy, and motherhood), Ra (the sun god), and Thoth (god of wisdom and writing), along with a mythical solar barque and traditional Nile irrigation devices like the shaduf and the Archimedes screw.
