National Gallery Singapore is sending shock waves through the city with a brutal transformation in 2025. This makeover has resulted in the closure of eight popular food and beverage (F&B) establishments at the museum before April 2025. The move is part of a ”holistic refresh” aimed at enhancing the visitor experience by focusing on museum dining offers that connect art, culture, and dining. Therefore, a new slate of F&B tenants will take over leases in the second quarter of 2025. Here’s what we know about the National Gallery Singapore restaurant and bar closures:
National Gallery Singapore closures
National Gallery Singapore’s major transformation sees the closure of several restaurants and bars. Among the closures are popular rooftop bar Smoke & Mirrors, known for a stunning backdrop of the city’s skyline, as well as Cantonese restaurant Yan, both of which will shut down on March 15, 2025. Meanwhile, renowned Spanish restaurant The Great Mischief, Hachi Restaurant, Courtyard Cafe & Lounge, and The Public Eight by Hachi Restaurant will close in April 2025.
Earlier departures included Michelin-starred Art di Daniele Sperindio and rooftop restaurant Gemma in late 2024.

These closures mark the end of an era for some establishments that have been part of the museum’s identity for nearly a decade. However, many of these F&B establishments are seeking leases elsewhere in Singapore. For instance, Hachi Restaurant plans to reopen in July 2025 at Keppel South Central.
Meanwhile, two restaurants that closely align with the gallery’s goals were chosen to stay. These are famous Michelin-starred French restaurant Odette and National Kitchen which is known for glorious Peranakan cuisine.
Overall, the gallery aims to focus on affordability and reflect Singapore and Asian heritage with its culinary offerings as it approaches its 10 year anniversary. They desire to appeal to a wider audience including families, tourists, and younger generations. Additionally, the refresh seeks to adapt a more inclusive space for visitors.
Despite these changes in residencies, National Gallery Singapore is set to introduce an exciting new chapter promising a blend of art, culture, and dining in innovative ways later this year. What do you think of these National Gallery Singapore closures?
