Singapore has been crowned with a number of awards the past year. From one of the world’s best cities 2024 to the happiest country in Asia, the world’s best hospitals, and more…Singapore is seen as leading country worldwide. However, Singapore is lacking decent facilities for teleworking because it is NOT one of the best remote work destinations for 2024.
Best remote work locations 2024
HR Firm Remote released its annual report evaluating the best cities worldwide for remote work. It considers several factors including cost of living, safety, quality of life in areas such as healthcare and education, how open the society is, internet reliability, location appeal, inflation, and remote worker incentives.
Spain’s capital city of Madrid is the #1 destination to remote work for 2024 with the report claiming it offers a welcoming environment, low taxes, generous expat visas, and the perfect work-life balance.
In the report, our neighbour Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur has significantly outranked Singapore as a preferred location for remote work. In fact, Kuala Lumpur leaped 62 places on the 2024 ranking to sit high on the 22nd spot. It means that there is a growing appeal for remote workers to live and work in Kuala Lumpur since it is much cheaper than Singapore.
Meanwhile, Singapore ranked at 78th on the list of the best cities for remote work in 2024. Even though Singapore allegedly boasts the fastest internet globally, the country remains expensive in all aspects which doesn’t appeal to digital nomads and often visa applications are difficult for remote companies.
Here are the Top 10 cities for remote work 2024:
1. Madrid, Spain
2. Madeira, Portugal
3. Toronto, Canada
4. Auckland, New Zealand
5. Tokyo, Japan
6. Paris, France
7. Portland, Maine, USA
8. Taipei, Taiwan
9. Stockholm, Sweden
10. Reykjavik, Iceland
Interestingly, remote work has become increasingly appealing worldwide since the COVID-19 pandemic. It has highlighted numerous benefits for both employees and employers such as a better work-life balance, increased productivity, cost savings, decreased turnover, access to a wider talent pool, and much more.
