From the bustling Chinatown and Little India to the colourful streets of Katong…Singaporeans have weighed in on their favourite neighbourhoods. Majority of locals gave a different opinion so we’ve selected the neighbourhoods that were named the most for our list below. Here are 10 best neighbourhoods in Singapore according to YOU.
1. Katong & Joo Chiat
The rich neighbourhood of Katong and Joo Chait in the East, just 10 minutes drive from the city centre, celebrates Peranakan heritage and culture. The unique location is home to Koon Seng Road’s colourful shophouses which was recently named one of the world’s best streets for 2024. Meanwhile, foodies love the delicious cafes and breezy coffee shops, and it’s a popular location for tourists looking for a leisurely stroll around boutique shops or an overall unique culture experience in Singapore.
2. River Valley
River Valley is considered one of the best neighbourhoods in Singapore due to its vibrant lifestyle, central location, and scenic views along Singapore River. With easy access to the Central Business District and Orchard Road, it’s the perfect location to live and it is walkable distance to major attractions, shopping centres, and famous hawker centres and restaurants such as Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse – which was just named Asia’s Best Steakhouse 2024. As one of the oldest ethnic neighbourhoods in Singapore, it dates back to the early 19th century when the first Chinese immigrants settled in the region. Today, it boasts several landmarks, from iconic temples to epic hawker centres like Maxwell Food Centre, and more. Additionally, there are notable Michelin-starred restaurants, street markets, and global cuisines available in the area. Yishun is another excellent neighbourhood according to locals. Yishun caters to those young, old, and with families…so it’s the perfect community out of the city centre. 9. Bugis
Bugis. centered around the bustling Bugis Street Market, was made famous in the 1050s for its vibrant nightlife. Today, the colourful area is one of the best shopping locations in the city, with plenty of high-end and cheap finds in the likes of Bugis Junction and Bugis+, near to modern attractions. 10. Bukit Timah
Another one of the best neighbourhoods considered by Singaporeans is the rich Bukit Timah. Home to some of the best nature parks, outdoor activities from hiking to biking routes, secret places like WWII sites, heritage experiences, and more…you’ll be spoilt for choice in Bukit Timah. Particularly, Hillview in Upper Bukit Timah was mentioned as a must-visit neighbourhood. Plus, some of Singapore’s most popular eateries and cosy coffeehouses are located in this area.
